Do you have room in your heart but not in your home? Sponsor a rescue animal with special needs — one that is hard to adopt because of age, illness, injury, trauma, shyness or a variety of other conditions. For instance, a cat with diabetes typically requires a special diet and may require daily insulin injections and regular blood testing. A traumatized cat may have been abused or injured and now finds it difficult to trust humans which results in shyness or unreliable behavior.

DANTE
Dante, formerly known as Koko, is a gentle giant of a kitty. At 17 pounds, he could appear imposing, but he’s definitely not! When you meet him, he greets you with a quiet “mew” rather than a giant-sized “MEOW”. He has a glossy, ebony black coat, and sports eye-catching white whiskers.
Since his return to PFOA in October of 2023, he is being treated for diabetes. He is a sponsored kitty and not considered adoptable at this time.

WILL
Big WILL came to us with chronic health issues. After a battery of diagnostic tests, we discovered that lymphoma was the underlying cause of his problems. He is now doing quite well on his meds, and is a huge, handsome boy. We hope to have him with us for years to come!
Will has now found full-time employment at the shelter. As Wills, he is the author of the popular weekly column, From the Home Front. The most current issues, including the latest one, can be found on the Home Front page. He is also the self-appointed hall monitor for the first floor of Safe Haven, as well as unappointed staff supervisor.

BOBBIE JO is an adorable special-needs Manx kitty. She came to us in the fall of 2012 when we received a call from an elderly gentleman that there was a kitten dying under his deck. When we arrived, we found a tiny kitten in a real mess, but she had no intention of dying — this little girl is a fighter! Bobbie has done very well, but as is common with some Manx cats, she does not have good bowel and bladder control. While this has greatly improved, she still requires special care and attention, and will probably do so for the rest of her life.

AUSTIN
Austin is a gorgeous young male tabby who has, unfortunately, tested positive for FIV. Having been a stray for many months before his rescue, he probably picked up the virus when on the lam. He also has a history of bladder infections and blockages, and requires a special diet and daily medications. Austin is not other-cat friendly and has behavioral issues which do not make him a good candidate for permanent adoption.
