A more usable website. For more visitors.

PFOA wants its website to be usable by as many visitors as possible. Accessibility improvements are part of maintaining and improving the site.

Current website features

Support for navigating and finding information.

The site includes the following features to help visitors move through pages, search animal profiles, and understand what is happening on screen.

  1. Skip to main content

Keyboard visitors can bypass repeated page navigation and move directly to the main content.

  2. Keyboard navigation

The primary navigation, dropdown menus, and mobile menu can be operated with a keyboard.

  3. Visible focus

Links, buttons, and other controls show a visible indicator when they receive keyboard focus.

  4. Page structure

Structured headings and page regions help visitors understand and navigate each page.

  5. Animal-search labels

Animal-search filters include labels that describe the available choices.

  6. Animal-profile status

Status messages communicate loading, available results, no matching results, and temporary failures.

  7. Photo fallbacks

A clear fallback appears when an animal photograph is unavailable.

  8. Smaller screens

Page layouts and navigation adapt for visitors using smaller screens.

Different ways of browsing

Accessibility can vary across technology.

Browsers, devices, settings, and assistive technologies can present websites differently. PFOA welcomes reports about barriers visitors encounter so those issues can be considered as the site is maintained.
